Hear my cry, God.

Listen to my prayer.

From the end of the earth,

I will call to you, when my heart is overwhelmed.

Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

For you have been a refuge for me, a strong tower from the enemy.

I will dwell in your tent forever.

I will take refuge in the shelter of your wings.

 

Selah.

For you, God, have heard my vows.

You have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.

You will prolong the king's life;

his years shall be for generations.

He shall be enthroned in God's presence forever.

Appoint your loving kindness and truth,

that they may preserve him.

So I will sing praise to your name forever, that I may fulfill my vows daily.

Psalm 26

26:1 Judge me, Yahweh, for I have walked in my integrity.
I have trusted also in Yahweh without wavering.
26:2 Examine me, Yahweh, and prove me.
Try my heart and my mind.
26:3 For your loving kindness is before my eyes.
I have walked in your truth.
26:4 I have not sat with deceitful men,
neither will I go in with hypocrites.

26:5 I hate the assembly of evildoers,
and will not sit with the wicked.
26:6 I will wash my hands in innocence,
so I will go about your altar, Yahweh;
26:7 that I may make the voice of thanksgiving to be heard,
and tell of all your wondrous works.
26:8 Yahweh, I love the habitation of your house,
the place where your glory dwells.

26:9 Don’t gather my soul with sinners,
nor my life with bloodthirsty men;
26:10 in whose hands is wickedness,
their right hand is full of bribes.
26:11 But as for me, I will walk in my integrity.
Redeem me, and be merciful to me.
26:12 My foot stands in an even place.
In the congregations I will bless Yahweh.

Psalm 43 - Prayer

Psalm 43

43:1 Vindicate me, God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation.

Oh, deliver me from deceitful and wicked men.

43:2 For you are the God of my strength.

Why have you rejected me?

Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

43:3 Oh, send out your light and your truth.

Let them lead me.

Let them bring me to your holy hill,

To your tents.

43:4 Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my exceeding joy.

I will praise you on the harp, God, my God.

43:5 Why are you in despair, my soul?

Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God!

For I shall still praise him: my Savior, my helper, and my God

24. Mary's God – Partakers Christmas Bible Thought

In our last podcast, we looked at Mary’s response the visit of her relative Elizabeth, and discovered that in response to Elizabeth’s exclamations, Mary spontaneously bursts into song! A song seemingly of renewal, revolution and reformation. Today we look more at the God of Mary whom she worships and what that has to do with us today. Mary knows that her God is called Almighty. We know it as well through our study of the Bible and in our own lives, I am sure. But how is God, “Almighty”, and just as importantly, why? God being Almighty, can be summed up in 3 words: Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient. Come and listen to find out more about God and Mary's relationship with Him, in this part in the Christmas story!

46 And Mary said:
“My soul glorifies the Lord
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
48 for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”
56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.

A prayer of Bonaventure

Lord Jesus,

as God’s Spirit came

down and rested upon you,

may the same Spirit rest upon and be within us.

O Yahweh,

Grant us the gift of

understanding, by which your

precepts may enlighten our minds.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

O Jehovah,

Grant us counsel,

by which we may follow in your

footsteps on the path of righteousness.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

O Great God,

grant us courage,

by which we may ward

off the Enemy’s attacks.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

O Sovereign God,

grant us knowledge.

by which we can distinguish

good from evil.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

O Merciful God,

grant us piety,

by which we may acquire

compassionate hearts.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

O Holy God,

grant us fear, by which

we may draw back from evil

and submit to what is good.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

O ineffable God

made known through Jesus,

grant us wisdom,

that we may taste fully the

life-giving sweetness of your love.

For we ask this O God our Father,

In the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us

Through the Son who died and rose again!

Church Worship - O Antiphons

In the podcast today we continue celebrating Advent and Christmas with some ancient Christian worship! These seven O antiphons each address Jesus Christ using a Messianic title drawn from Old Testament prophecy. Read backwards, the initials of each title in Latin form the words “Ero Cras” or "Tomorrow I shall be (with you)" – looking forward to the return of Jesus Christ.

The seven antiphons are:

• Sapientia – Wisdom (Isaiah 11:1-3; Isaiah 28:29)
• Adonai - Holy Lord (Exodus 3:1-4; Isaiah 11:3b; Isaiah 33:22)
• Radix Jesse - Root of Jesse (Jeremiah 23:5-6; Micah 5:1; Revelation 22:16-17)
• Clavis David - Key of David (Isaiah 9:6; Isaiah 22:21-22)
• Oriens - Morning Star (Isaiah 9:2; Zechariah 6:12-13; Malachi 4:2; Luke 1:8-10; John 8:12; Hebrews 1:3)
• Rex Gentium - King of the Nations (Genesis 2:7; Isaiah 2:4; Isaiah 9:7; Isaiah 28:16; Haggai 2:8-9; Ephesians 2:14-16)
• Emmanuel – God with us (Isaiah 7:13-14; Matthew 1:23; John 3:16; Acts 4:11-12)

“Give to the LORD the glory he deserves! Bring your offering and come into his presence. Worship the LORD in all his holy splendour” (1 Chronicles 16:29)

1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:1-2)

19 After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting:
“Hallelujah!
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,
2 for true and just are his judgments.
He has condemned the great prostitute
who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.
He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”
3 And again they shouted:
“Hallelujah!
The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.”
4 The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:
“Amen, Hallelujah!”
(Revelation 19:1-4)

I wonder what you think worship is? Is your view of worship, too small? Worship is giving God alone (Psalm 19:2), glory due His name in the beauty of His holiness (1 Chronicles 16:29), with reverence. This is where through the use of the mind and the senses, honour and respect are directed towards God, “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24)!

who wants to be Lord of all of you - not just part of you!?

Lord I Must Be Yours Alone

Lord, I must be yours alone.

Teach me I am not my own.

Crush and mould this heart of stone.

In your image make it.

Wilful, stubborn, Lord, it's true -

I do what I want to do.

Let me learn to follow you.

Take my will and break it.

~

From my self I would be free.

Take all my identity,

Fill with your humility.

Seize my pride and shake it.

~

When a helpless wreck I am,

Take me and rebuild the sham

To be like the Living Lamb,
