Key Verses:
- 1 John 1:3-4
- 1 John 5:13
Throughout, John uses a series of keywords: light, fellowship, love, truth, eternal life, obey, born of God, among them. He bounces ideas back and forward amongst these words to encourage and strengthen his readers. He is aiming to lead his readers from sin to eternal life, that is, God honouring life in this world and the next. He is aware that there is false teaching, known as Gnostic teaching, around and seeks to combat it.
John writes about fellowship with the Father and the Son and other believers. Fellowship comes through obedience to the Word of God and through confession of sin when sin is committed. John also writes so that they may have confidence about eternal life, by discussing foundation and conduct. In doing so, he tackles heretical Gnostic teachers who were challenging apostolic teachings.

John writes to remind this lady and her children (which may be code for the church and the members of the church) that their lives should be an expression of the Word of God in all areas. This expression is called love or loving one another.
The believers are to continue loving, abiding in God’s Commandments and pay no heed to the false teachers who deny Jesus’ incarnation. They need to be sure he was a real human person and not just a god figure.

1. New Testament
Book of Revelation (AD94-96)
G'day and welcome to our series, "Exploring the Bible" This is also the title of our latest book available on Amazon by clicking here or visiting PulpTheology.com
Key Verses:
- Revelation 1:19
- Revelation 21:1-7
The author calls himself ‘John’ and may, or may not be the Apostle John. He writes about the prophetic program, which centres on Jesus Christ and extends from John's day until the enthronement of Jesus as the Father's king in the millennium and in eternity. The book reveals what John has seen – Jesus Christ’s glories; the things which are – regarding the seven churches referred to by name; and the things that will be: tribulation, second advent, millennium, and eternity.
Much of the meaning of what John wrote is a mystery yet the book has been of encouragement to Christians down through history. Some of it is prophetic but it is not wise to be too dogmatic about what it means. It says loudly and clearly that the future, and our present, are in God’s hands and that there will be final days of great glory and joy for the Lord’s people.

A question for you. Have you ever noticed the first thing a baby does when it is born? It cries! The crying shows that it is alive! Or about when it needs help? It cries, wanting help and attention. A crying baby is symbolic of humanity's need of God and life with Him! A crying baby also shows how God intervened in humany history - be become one of us! That is what we celebrate at Christmas.
A further question. What is the best way to learn about God and following Him? It is be reading the Bible regularly. Now admittedly, this can lead to confusion. However, help is at hand, and that is the reason for this little series "Exploring the Bible." Every Sunday we will issue a podcast outlining a book of the Bible - all 66 books - as well as the best way to read and interpret its ancient wisdom.
As Christians, we think that through the Bible, God has spoken to the world because He loves the world. Written over a period of 1,500 years, by people of different nationalities, backgrounds and times, the Bible has a central messsage: God is love. With each podcast, we hope as we work through the Bible together, you will see the development of this love.
After all, it is the story of God and His dealing with humanity. A story of ancient beginnings to new beginnings? Are you read? We start this series next Sunday with the Book of Revelation - going from the end to the beginning - and perhaps we will all gain some new perspective on this ancient story.
