Looking Ahead to Christmas – Part 2
1 ‘Here is my servant, whom I uphold,
my chosen one in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on him,
and he will bring justice to the nations.
2 He will not shout or cry out,
or raise his voice in the streets.
3 A bruised reed he will not break,
and a smouldering wick he will not snuff out.
In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;
4 he will not falter or be discouraged
till he establishes justice on earth.
In his teaching the islands will put their hope.’(Isaiah 42:1-4)
In the podcast today we continue looking ahead to Christmas and its consequences, by seeing what the prophet Isaiah had to say in Isaiah 42:1-9 about the identity of the coming Messiah and how that relates to the man of history we know as Jesus Christ.

Looking Ahead to Christmas – Part 1
In the podcast today we start to look at what 2 people from the Old Testament had to say about the events of Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ. These two people we know as Isaiah and Zechariah. Throughout the Old Testament, we see that the birth, life and mission of this Messiah is the aim and focus of attention. The whole Old Testament is joined together, because it all speaks about this Messiah baby, Jesus Christ. This baby, who was both 100% human and 100% divine, who later would grow in wisdom and stature. We start this adventure together by looking at an introduction to these two books of the Bible, Isaiah and Zechariah.

Church Worship - O Antiphons
In the podcast today we continue celebrating Advent and Christmas with some ancient Christian worship! These seven O antiphons each address Jesus Christ using a Messianic title drawn from Old Testament prophecy. Read backwards, the initials of each title in Latin form the words “Ero Cras” or "Tomorrow I shall be (with you)" – looking forward to the return of Jesus Christ.
The seven antiphons are:
- Sapientia – Wisdom (Isaiah 11:1-3; Isaiah 28:29)
- Adonai - Holy Lord (Exodus 3:1-4; Isaiah 11:3b; Isaiah 33:22)
- Radix Jesse - Root of Jesse (Jeremiah 23:5-6; Micah 5:1; Revelation 22:16-17)
- Clavis David - Key of David (Isaiah 9:6; Isaiah 22:21-22)
- Oriens - Morning Star (Isaiah 9:2; Zechariah 6:12-13; Malachi 4:2; Luke 1:8-10; John 8:12; Hebrews 1:3)
- Rex Gentium - King of the Nations (Genesis 2:7; Isaiah 2:4; Isaiah 9:7; Isaiah 28:16; Haggai 2:8-9; Ephesians 2:14-16)
- Emmanuel – God with us (Isaiah 7:13-14; Matthew 1:23; John 3:16; Acts 4:11-12)

10 David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly, saying, “Praise be to you, LORD, the God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. 11 Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendour, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. 12 Wealth and honour come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. 13 Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name. 14 “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. 15 We are foreigners and strangers in your sight, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope. 16 LORD our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you. 17 I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. All these things I have given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you. 18 LORD, the God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep these desires and thoughts in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you. 19 And give my son Solomon the wholehearted devotion to keep your commands, statutes and decrees and to do everything to build the palatial structure for which I have provided.” 20 Then David said to the whole assembly, “Praise the LORD your God.” So they all praised the LORD, the God of their fathers; they bowed down, prostrating themselves before the LORD and the king. (1 Chronicles 29:10-20)
In the podcast yesterday we looked together at our spiritual armour. Today we look at a prayer of King David, known as a man after God’s own heart. Why was he known like that? Because despite his faults, he demonstrated consistently that his faith was alive and that he was totally committed to following the Lord God alone! We look at this prayer to get some keys for our own prayer life but also to be reminded of God, who was the object of this prayer!
David, a man, who despite his many faults, is described as a man after God’s own heart. Israel’s greatest king, saying this prayer of intimate praise & adoration to his God in front of the assembled throngs. This prayer, like his gifts of gold etc., could be said, to be David’s legacy to the nation of Israel, to Solomon and by extension also to us.
Today we explore this prayer of King David, exploring questions such as: What do we see of God and His greatness, power, glory, victory and majesty? Whose kingdom and glory should be seen – God’s or David’s? What can we glimpse of David’s relationship with God, through this prayer? What keys can we take for our own prayer life? What can we take away from this prayer for our living as Christians in the 21st century? Listen or download the mp3 podcast to find out more concerning this prayer of King David!

22. Prophecies Fulfilled Part 8
Over the last few studies in our Christmas series, we saw together some things predicted in history concerning the birth, life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. Predictions made about Him before He was born. We only looked at a few of the 300 events predicted. Let’s look at these in summary together:
The Messiah would be born of a woman - born of a virgin - in the town of Bethlehem. The Messiah would come from the line of Abraham and be a descendant of Isaac & Jacob - from the tribe of Judah and be an heir to King David's throne.
This Messiah's throne will be anointed and eternal and his name would be Immanuel. This Messiah would spend a period of time away in Egypt. At the Messiah’s birthplace there would be a grand massacre of children.
There would be a messenger sent who would prepare the way for the Messiah who would be rejected by his own people.
The Messiah would be a prophet, preceded by Elijah and this Messiah would be declared the Son of God.
This Messiah would be a Nazarene and bring light to Galilee. He would do this by speaking in parables and healing the broken hearted.
This Messiah would be a priest after the order of Melchizedek, be called King yet also praised by little children.
This Messiah would be betrayed for a sum of money which would be used to buy a potter's field.
This Messiah would be falsely accused, He would be silent before his accusers who would spit upon and strike him.
This Messiah would be hated without cause and be crucified with criminals.
This Messiah would be given vinegar to drink, have his hands and feet pierced, be mocked and ridiculed and soldiers would gamble for His very clothes. Yet despite all this, this Messiah would pray for his enemies. This Messiah’s bones would not be broken but He would be forsaken by God Himself. Soldiers would pierce Messiah's side on His death and he would be buried with the rich. But there is more!
This Messiah would rise from the dead and into new life! WOW! This Messiah would ascend to heaven where He would be seated at God's right hand. This Messiah would be a sacrifice for sin before God and therefore anybody can take on this Messiah as their Saviour and be restored back into a living and dynamic relationship with God.
If you are not already in a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, there is no need to delay! If you want to turn to God there is no need for delay. You are separated from God now, but there is no need to be. God is ready and willing to take you as His own right now. Just ask and He will take you in and help you.
