Easter 2016
Part 13: Jesus' Final Prayer - Part 2
John 17:6-8: I spelled out your character in detail to the men and women you gave me. They were yours in the first place; then you gave them to me, and they have now done what you said. They know now, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that everything you gave me is first hand from you, for the message you gave me, I gave them; and they took it, and were convinced that I came from you. They believed that you sent me.
We are now looking together at Jesus' final prayer. This prayer is probably the pinnacle of revelation in John’s gospel. Here we see Jesus’ very words, revealing an unparalleled intimacy with His Father. Today we see and reflect on the prayer Jesus prayed for his disciples.

Part 13: Jesus' Final Prayer - Part 1
John 17:1-5: Jesus said these things. Then, raising his eyes in prayer, he said: Father, it's time. Display the bright splendour of your Son So the Son in turn may show your bright splendour. You put him in charge of everything human so he might give real and eternal life to all in his charge. And this is the real and eternal life: That they know you, the one and only true God, And Jesus Christ, whom you sent. I glorified you on earth by completing down to the last detail what you assigned me to do. And now, Father, glorify me with your very own splendour, the very splendour I had in your presence before there was a world.
We now look together at Jesus' final prayer. This prayer is probably the pinnacle of revelation in John’s gospel. Here we see Jesus’ very words, revealing an unparalleled intimacy with His Father. Firstly, Jesus prays for Himself, then for His twelve disciples and then finally for all disciples of all generations to follow, the church. Today we are looking at Jesus' prayer for himself.

Easter 2016
Part 12: Jesus' Final Teaching - Part 3
John 16:1-4: “I am telling you this now so that your faith in me may not be shaken. They will excommunicate you from their synagogues. Yes, the time is coming when a man who kills you will think he is thereby serving God! They will act like this because they have never had any true knowledge of the Father or of me, but I have told you all this so that when the time comes for it to happen you may remember that I told you about it. I have not spoken like this to you before, because I have been with you;
5-11 but now the time has come for me to go away to the one who sent me. None of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ That is because you are so distressed at what I have told you. Yet I am telling you the simple truth when I assure you that it is a good thing for you that I should go away. For if I did not go away, the divine helper would not come to you. But if I go, then I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convince the world of the meaning of sin, of true goodness and of judgement. He will expose their sin because they do not believe in me; he will reveal true goodness for I am going away to the Father and you will see me no longer; and he will show them the meaning of judgement, for the spirit which rules this world will have been judged.
12-15 “I have much more to tell you but you cannot bear it now. Yet when that one I have spoken to you about comes—the Spirit of truth—he will guide you into everything that is true. For he will not be speaking of his own accord but exactly as he hears, and he will inform you about what is to come. He will bring glory to me for he will draw on my truth and reveal it to you. Whatever the Father possesses is also mine; that is why I tell you that he will draw on my truth and will show it to you.
16 “In a little while you will not see me any longer, and again, in a little while you will see me.”
Here in John 16, Jesus goes on to reveal to His Disciples about the resources they will have in the Kingdom - the Holy Spirit and Himself!
- Holy Spirit - The first resource that Christian Disciples have is, as we have already seen, the Holy Spirit. After all, He is the real evangelist. In conjunction with Him, the Christian Disciple has three resources to use: proclaiming, counselling and discipling.
- Jesus - Jesus' presence, provision and position.

Easter 2016
Part 11: Jesus' Final Teaching - Part 2
John 15:18-20: ‘If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember what I told you: “A servant is not greater than his master.” If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.
Having spoken of love and bearing fruit, Jesus now declares a warning and the context into which He is sending them. We learn from this passage that opposition to Jesus’ message is unavoidable.
Christian Disciples Can Expect Opposition

- If we are facing opposition, who will help us?

Easter 2016
Part 10: Jesus' Final Teaching 1
Today, we are going to start looking at Jesus’ last teaching before He goes to the cross to die.
“But now I am going back to the Father who sent me, and none of you asks me where I am going. You are very sad from hearing all of this. But I tell you that I am going to do what is best for you. That is why I am going away. The Holy Spirit cannot come to help you until I leave. But after I am gone, I will send the Spirit to you.” (John 16:5-7)
In these last few chapters before He is crucified, Jesus is saying goodbye to His disciples and giving them some final teaching before He departs.
Several times the Gospel writer records that Jesus has told them He is going away (John 13:33; John 14:3-4, 19, 28).
Let’s look together at what Jesus teaches his disciples!Disciples must bear fruit for the kingdom! (John 15:1-16)
"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” (John 15:1-2)

Easter 2016 - Who was and is this Jesus?

Easter 2016
Part 9: Who was and is this Jesus?
Mark 8:27-33: Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, ‘Who do people say I am?’
They replied, ‘Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.’
‘But what about you?’ he asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’
Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah.’
Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.
He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. ‘Get behind me, Satan!’ he said. ‘You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.’
Here in this historical account written by Mark, we see that Jesus asked His disciples, "Who do people say I am?".
In this podcast we look briefly at:
- Who Jesus was and is?
- Confessing who Jesus is - the Messiah and so what
- What was His purpose
- What was the purpose of the Messiah? (Mark 10:45)
- Follow who Jesus actually is, and not who you merely think he is.
- There is a price to pay for true followers.
- Are you willing to pay the price and count the cost of being a follower of Jesus Christ, knowing what the story of Easter is all about?

Easter 2016 - I AM The Vine

Monday Mar 14, 2016

Easter 2016
Part 6: Who was Jesus? I AM the Vine
John 15:1 "I AM the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser."
All the things the nation of Israel was to be but failed to do so, is embodied in Jesus Christ. All the I AM statements reflect this. Isaiah 5 starts out as a love song between God and His chosen people, Israel. Israel was to be a vineyard, and despite all the love God had given tending to her, Israel had only produced bitter and sour fruit. This bitterly sour fruit is described in Isaiah 5:8-25. In the Old Testament, the nation of Israel was to be a vine or vineyard (Isaiah 5:1-7, Ezekiel 15:1-6). Therefore, God will abandon her.
So if this vineyard is abandoned, will God raise a new vineyard? Juxtaposed against Israel’s failure to be a vine, Jesus states that he is the true vine. Jesus was the reality, whereas Israel was the symbol. How was Jesus the reality? Play or download the audio mp3 to find out more about this Jesus and what that means for you today!!

Easter 2016
Part 6: Who was Jesus? I AM The way, the truth, and the life
John 14:5 Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I AM the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
When Jesus exclaimed this statement, the stress of the sentence automatically falls on the words “the Way”. This is because Jesus is answering a question posed by Thomas (John 14:5). What does Jesus go on to say in answer to this question?

Part 5: Who was Jesus? I AM the Resurrection and the Life
John 11:25: Jesus said to her, "I AM the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live."
This exclamation by Jesus is the highlight of this passage of Scripture. Lazarus has died (John 11:15) and will be raised back to life again (John 11:43-44). Why does Jesus say that He is the resurrection and the life? To find out the answer, play or download the audio mp3.

Partakers Friday Prayers!
11th March 2016
We pray together and when Christians pray together, from different nations, different churches and different denominations - that reveals Church unity! Come! Let us pray together!
God of all comfort, for those who are tortured both in body and mind, give them the grace to endure and to see their suffering as part of following in Christ’s footsteps. Merciful God, for those asked to pay the ultimate price; who are martyred because of their love for you, may they truly know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death. Amen
Father God, for those who are widowed and orphaned may they know the comfort that comes from your promised presence even when they walk through the valley. May they be strengthened by your Spirit, enabling them to rejoice with the psalmist as they proclaim that the LORD will not abandon them in death. Amen
Heavenly Father, we ask that you would make us ever mindful of our brothers and sisters around the world who need us to stand with them as they suffer in your name. Teach us what it means to overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony; we pray that we would not love our lives so much as to shrink from death.
We ask these things O Father, through the name of Your Son, Jesus and in the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us. Amen
