I AM - Introduction

G'day! Today, we start a new series for Christmas 2011 by looking at the Old Testament before moving to the time of Jesus Christ, in the New Testament.
Exodus 3:13-14: Moses said to God, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' Then what shall I tell them?" God said to Moses, "I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.' Isaiah 41:4: "Who has done this and carried it through, calling forth the generations from the beginning? I, the LORD -with the first of them and with the last-I am he" John 8:58: "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "Before Abraham was, I AM". On seven other occasions in the Gospel of John, John records statements where Jesus said "I AM". These are unique to John and are not recorded in the other three Gospels. Here in John 8:58, Jesus is reinforcing His claims to be God. When Jesus says "I AM", he is referring back to the time when God revealed Himself to Moses in Exodus 3:14 and through the prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 41:4. That's why in John 8:59, they picked up stones in order to kill Him for blasphemy. This was in accordance, so they thought, with Deuteronomy 13, which dictates that anyone who tries to turn people away from the living God is to be stoned to death. They knew Jesus was claiming to the very God they thought they worshipped. In these seven "I AM" statements, as well as equating Himself as God with the "I AM", Jesus is also promoting his exclusivity as the only Saviour. As His disciples currently in the Western world, we get shouted at and criticized for holding such exclusive views. But if Jesus was not God and He was only one path to God, would Jesus have needed to go through the agony of the cross, as payment for the sins of the world? Of course he wouldn't have needed to. That He did, shows that He is the only path and only means of access to God. It is only through the resurrected Jesus that salvation can be assured and then only by a childlike faith and not by any other means. That is why we should not capitulate to current trends to unite all religions, which says that all paths lead to God. Jesus Christ Himself, as we have seen, and will see, has said that He and He alone is the way to God and that salvation is only through His work on the cross for all those who trust and believe in Him.Jesus, the great "I AM!"

Let us now pray for these people who are ill. Father we lift before you these people who are ill before You:Dorothy, Kath, Joy, Christina, Margaret, Ron, Beryl, Marjorie, Chris, Bob and Patti!
Give comfort to them and all those who are ill, give wisdom to medical staff treating them and from your wellsprings of mercy grant a healing touch! Father, we especially lift to you Patti who was recently diagnosed with lupus and recovering from surgery. We ask o Lord that you would provide a healing touch and patience for her to endure. Grant also, most merciful Father, peace to her mother and family - a peace that only You can provide. Amen! We also lift to you Florence who was baptised last Sunday! We ask O merciful Father, that You would protect her! Give her, O great and marvellous God, a sense of peace and grant her boldness! We ask these things O gracious Father in the name of your majestic son, Jesus and in the power of the Spirit who lives within us. Amen!Right mouse click to save/download this as a MP3 audio file

Here we are Monday again. Are you pleased? Are you ready for a new day at the office, or at college or in the factory or at a desk? You are a Christian right? So what are you thinking as you resume where you left off last week? Did you pray before you left home? Great for that's the best way to start off. You spent a little time with the Lord in His Word and have sought his leading through the day. That is also commendable. Have you sought protection from the Lord also? Have you realised there is someone who is anxious that you don't triumph in Christ today. Someone who wants to safeguard his territory and his prisoners. So look at this day as an exciting day with all kinds of great prospects. If you are walking and talking with God you couldn't be in better company or stronger. He will be your shield and refuge a very present help in time of trouble. He is at your right hand and will be in control as you yield yourself confidently to His direction through the day. Ok a lot of routine stuff but do it as well as you can and cheerfully. But you don't know my boss? No but God does and he has you there in that place for a reason never doubt. You may not see anything terrific happen today no miracles but you are a light shining for Jesus and will make an impact upon someones day today as you come into contact just your presence in the same room. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify God in Heaven. Trust in the Lord and be not afraid. Watch your behaviour and enjoy God's presence with you. You are in the centre of his will and its going to be a great Monday. Our confidence is in the Lord. Psalm 23 reads “He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake” Believe and act upon those words spoken by David and at the end of day you may well be able to also say with him “My cup runs over” Here is a brief prayer to help us into the new week. Dear loving heavenly Father, I place today into your hands and will do what I can to first please you in the way I work today. If I am at home looking after my children help me cope and enjoy them. If I am at work and have an awkward situation help me to know what to do. If I have to rebuke a worker under me help me to do it in a helpful way and not a way that will hinder a good working relationship. I belong to you Lord help me display that without showing off or arrogance. You gave your life for me help me dedicate my life to you this day. May Jesus be seen in all I think, say and do. In Jesus name I pray AmenRight Mouse click to save this as a mp3 file

Sermon - Jesus WOW Part 2

The Challenge Of
Jesus' WOW Factor
Right mouse click here to download as a MP3 audio file
Introduction!
Last Sunday we reflected together about the WOW factor of Jesus. What does WOW stand for? Worthy of Worship! We saw together how as expressed in Colossians 1v15-20 Paul had a WOW factor about Jesus Christ! I shared how the WOW factor of Jesus for me included his uniqueness, majesty, tenderness, wisdom, strength and loveliness. That this extraordinary Jesus loves us with an unparalleled and creative passion! Then we looked at the WOW factor having an impact on communities by way of us as Christians being as Jesus, through loving, serving and giving to others! We saw that by using the power and strength of the Holy Spirit within us, meant that we would never tire of loving, serving and giving to others. Then finally, this Jesus will be returning and will do the most extraordinary thing to all those who persevere - Revelation 21v4 'He will wipe every tear from their eyes. That's a WOW factor of Jesus! How has your WOW factor of Jesus been this past week? It would be lovely to just stay there and bask in that WOW factor but that would not be the full picture! We have to live between the present and the future and Jesus has left us with a job to do! Anybody here find that following Jesus closely easy? Not just me then! Read the rest of this entry »

Opening Prayer
http://www.abigailmiller.com/Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
We praise you and give you glory:
We bless you for calling us to be your holy people.
Amen!Continuing on, we now have a song. Today it is Abigail Miller, singing Lord, I Must Be Yours! Visit her at: http://www.abigailmiller.com/ (Song originally downloaded at http://www.godlychristianmusic.com) Lord, I must be yours alone. Teach me I am not my own. Crush and mould this heart of stone. In your image make it. Wilful, stubborn, Lord, it's true- I do what I want to do. Let me learn to follow you. Take my will and break it. From my self I would be free. Take all my identity, Fill with your humility. Seize my pride and shake it. When a helpless wreck I am, Take me and rebuild the sham To be like the Living Lamb, My life, on Him, I stake it.
