Key Verses:
- Malachi 3:1
- Malachi 4:5-6
Malachi preached in Jerusalem 432 - 425 BC. His message was one of judgement on corrupt priests and a people filled with wicked practices and having no real sense of the security of faith in God.
Why? Because their hearts had become hardened to His voice, God’s word had no impact upon the people. Until John the Baptist came with the voice of a prophet 400 years later, God remained silent.

Key Verses:
- 1 Corinthians 1:30
- 1 Corinthians 10:12-13
The established church in Corinth had been taught by Paul, but had not learned its lessons very well! Paul had a vested interest in them because of this. Members of the church were living sinful lives and this was expressed in many forms.
Paul wrote to correct them. In doing so, he shows great love and a truly pastoral heart. On his way through his argument to them Paul expounds great themes such as love and the resurrection.

Key Verses:
- 2 Corinthians 4:5-6 / 2 Corinthians 5:17
The church in Corinth had not taken well to the direction Paul has given it in previous letters. Second Corinthians deals with the alienation between Paul and the Corinthians, its effect upon both parties and Paul’s hope for reconciliation.
Paul presents his authority, message, suffering, disappointments, responsibilities, blessings, and hope. He weaves the threads of the letter together so that the Corinthians are encouraged to grow in Christ.

Galatians - A.D. 49-50
G'day and welcome to our series, "Exploring the Bible" This is also the title of our latest book available on Amazon by clicking here or visiting PulpTheology.com
Key Verses:
- Galatians 2:20 / Galatians 5:25
Paul is furious at the way Peter has allowed a division to appear amongst the Christians in Galatia. Is salvation purely a grace gift, as Paul taught, or does it partly depend on belonging to the correct people group, the Jews? Galatians centres on the conflict between those two teachings.
Paul emphasises that the Christian must have faith in Jesus’ work on the cross as the only means of salvation, rather than thinking he must also be a slave to the Jewish Law. He defends the gospel of grace, explains it and then applies it to the Christian walk by saying it is the believer’s responsibility to serve others.

Ephesus-A.D. 60-62
G'day and welcome to our series, "Exploring the Bible" This is also the title of our latest book available on Amazon by clicking here or visiting PulpTheology.com
Key Verses:
- Ephesians 2:8-9 / Ephesians 4:1-3
What we call Ephesians is not so much a letter as a short thesis, on the subject about being a Christian. We happen to have the copy that went to Ephesus. Paul discusses the life of Christians, comparing it with how they were before they came to faith when they were separated from God.
He speaks of their new position in Christ now that they believe, and how it occurred. He talks about themes such as adoption, redemption, inheritance and citizenship. He then moves to the Christian, being equipped for service, to live a righteous life and the engagement in spiritual warfare.

He also talks about Jesus’ humility and their responsibility to maintain unity, having the mind and knowledge of Jesus.

Colossians--A.D. 60-62

Key Verses:
- Colossians 2:9-10
- Colossians 3:1-3
Paul is in prison as he writes this too. He writes to believers that are growing in spiritual maturity. His major thrust is toward their continued growth, even in the face of opposition.
Paul stresses the pre-eminence of Jesus, the Christian’s relationship to him and his own divinely given function in God’s purpose. Paul warns them about false teachers and discusses the Christian's life with Jesus, and daily life in various settings. Again, most of what he says is remarkably upbeat. It shows the power of the gospel and the Holy Spirit in one’s life.
