Restoration

~

He restores my soul!

By gracious means he makes me whole,

receives, reshapes, renews, restarts

my inward life, whose several parts

by disobedience and neglect

had run aground, completely wrecked.

~

He brings me back!

Directs me to the safest track.

In subtle ways he turns me round

and takes me back to well-trod ground;

the paths I learned at first to walk,

the words I used at first to talk.

~

He lights my fire!

Rekindles in me strong desire

to worship him with all my heart,

and not withhold a single part

from serving him and loving him,

my Shepherd, Saviour, and my King.

Hello! My name is Jim Harris! This poem, which I’ve called “Restoration”, was written when I was in France in 2003. Struggling to read the Bible in French I was made aware of the subtleties in that seemingly simple word ‘restores’, found in Psalm 23, verse 3 ‘He restores my soul’. Here’s what I wrote about that word at the time. ‘The word ‘restore’ carries more than one meaning. A ‘restaurant’ is where you replenish your energy levels by taking food. Restore also means to put something back into its original condition, or someone back into a broken relationship. It can also be used for stirring something into life, like the old coal fires we used to have. These three verses, based on Psalm 23:3, ‘He restores my soul’, try to reflect these three ideas about our relationship with the Good Shepherd.’ You can view more of Jim's verse at his website ~

• the families of Shirley who died earlier this month
• the family of baby Samuel who died 13th June 2013 due to poor health.

Father God,

be the strength for all those

who are grieving and mourning

the loss of loved ones.

~

Father God,

we pray that those in despair

will be helped and

where there is darkness

there will be light.

~

We pray today for all those grieving and mourning the loss of loved ones. We pray this in light of recent events involving untimely deaths

• Oklahoma due to a tornado,
• an innocent young man, Drummer Lee Rigby, brutally killed in Woolwich, London,
• an innocent elderly man, Mohammed Saleem, killed in Birmingham
• needless deaths in Bangladesh in the collapse of a factory,
• deaths in Pakistan, Syria and other places where conflict is rife.

We pray together and when Christians pray together, from different nations, different churches and different denominations - that reveals Church unity! Come! Let us pray together! Today we are praying for all those grieving, regardless of the reason. Come! Let us pray for those in mourning...There is also space in the video for you to say your own prayers...

Father God,

be the strength for all those

You are the unsearchable abyss of peace,

the ineffable sea of love,

the fountain of blessings,

and the bestower of affection,

Who sends peace to those that receive it;

open to us this day the sea of Your love,

and water us with the plenteous streams from the riches of Your grace.

Make us children of quietness,

and heirs of peace.

Kindle in us the fire of Your love;

sow in us Your fear;
