‘Campfire’ by Rend Collective music review
Rating:
5/5 stars
Background Info
Rend Collective Experiment are a Northern Irish Christian Experimental, folk/rock worship band originating from Bangor, Northern Ireland. The band have released 3 albums now, ‘Campfire’ being the most recent (they released ‘Organic Family Hymnal’ in September 2010 and ‘Homemade Worship for Homemade People’ in January 2012). Campfire was released in January this year (2013). They use a wide range of instruments from the Ukulele to the Boadhram!The album starts off with a reflective version of ‘Kumbaya’ as an introduction, to give you a taste of what the album is like, lasting about 30 second. The other songs on the album last a standard 3-4 minutes each. There are songs on the album that are reflective, such as ‘Desert Soul’ (track number 3), ‘You Bled’ (track number 7) and ‘Alabaster’ (track number 8), where you can just allow the music to help you think about worshipping God and these songs provide an intimate link between you and God.
There are also songs that you can sing and dance to, and just let yourself go while listening to them, such as ‘Build Your Kingdom Here’ (track number 3), ‘You Are My Vision’ (track number 5) and ‘Praise Like Fireworks’ (track number 12) where you can enjoy yourself and forget about any worries that you have and just give them to God (I often do this!)
This band boasts expertise in a subtle way, with the way the bands voices blend together, creating a layered effect. The lead singer of the band (Chris Llewellyn) shows masterful control of his voice, using it artfully.
Personal Favourites
- ‘Come on’ (track number 2)
- ‘Desert Soul’ (track number 3)
- ‘Praise Like Fireworks’ (track number 12)
It’s excellent value for a CD and it’s well worth the money and you won’t regret buying it! Thank you for reading my first official blog post, I hope you enjoyed it!

I Cannot Tell
William Y. Fullerton
I cannot tell why He whom angels worship,
Should set His love upon the sons of men,
Or why, as Shepherd, He should seek the wanderers,
To bring them back, they know not how or when.
But this I know, that He was born of Mary
When Bethlehem’s manger was His only home,
And that He lived at Nazareth and labored,
And so the Saviour, Saviour of the world is come.
~~~~~
I cannot tell how silently He suffered,
As with His peace He graced this place of tears,
Or how His heart upon the cross was broken,
The crown of pain to three and thirty years.
But this I know, He heals the brokenhearted,
And stays our sin, and calms our lurking fear,
And lifts the burden from the heavy laden,
For yet the Saviour, Saviour of the world is here.
~~~~~
I cannot tell how He will win the nations,
How He will claim His earthly heritage,
How satisfy the needs and aspirations
Of East and West, of sinner and of sage.
But this I know, all flesh shall see His glory,
And He shall reap the harvest He has sown,
And some glad day His sun shall shine in splendor
When He the Savior, Savior of the world is known.
~~~~~
I cannot tell how all the lands shall worship,
When, at His bidding, every storm is stilled,
Or who can say how great the jubilation
When all the hearts of men with love are filled.
But this I know, the skies will thrill with rapture,
And myriad, myriad human voices sing,
And earth to Heaven, and Heaven to earth, will answer:
At last the Saviour, Saviour of the world is King!
Pauline's Ponderings!
We as Christians are all on a journey - our final destination is the same – to live for ever in close relationship with our God! To be in His presence for eternity without sinning ever again!
1 Peter 3:12-14 “as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.”
We will be free from pain and suffering, we will have new bodies- it’s just going to be amazing. Revelation 21:4 “‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Can you imagine it? Have you got a glimpse of heaven in your heart. I personally can’t wait. Paul seems to have the right attitude towards this life and the next. He says in Philippians 3:9-14 “I consider them garbage,(his qualifications as a Jew and a Pharisee) that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
When the worries and cares of this world threaten to overwhelm us we should remember that we are just passing thro’ this is not our home. This always puts things in perspective for me. Why don’t you try it? Next time you feel overwhelmed by the stresses and strains of life on earth just pause and remember Jesus has a mansion in heaven with your name on it.
John 14 :2 gives us this assurance – “In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. “
Heyyyyyyy everyone!
Welcome to my youthspot little blog thing! I will try and make it as interesting as possible! Anyhow, I’m Katy Goodall, a young Christian, who is weird, creative and a bit ‘off the wall’ (being normal is boring and soooooo last year). I love baking, spending time with my family, being my unusual self with my friends and playing music. I play the flute and something called a ukulele (which is basically a guitar that has shrunk in the wash). I also sing, which I love to do!
As many teenagers do, I have a favourite band, which you’ll be glad to hear is not the dreaded ‘One Direction’ but an amazing, hot Irish band called The Script, who can actually sing, unlike many bands these days! I think that’s all I have to say, so now I’ll hand over to Mum, who will also feature here with me!
Hi Peeps! I’m Sue, Katy’s Mum. I won’t figure much but may post the odd poem when Katy’s bogged down with coursework, revision and exams. I love writing, reading, singing, and painting and used to play the clarinet (Grade 8 and played in the youth orchestra). Oh! – And I love photography! I am basically house – bound through ill – health but praising God in the good times and the bad.
So yeah, that’s it really! We hope you’ll enjoy our posts and we will post soon, so look out for the for it. Until then, byeeeeeee!
Joyful Joyful
performed by Dan Meredith
~
"Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee" is a poem written by Henry van Dyke in 1907 with the intention of musically setting it to Beethoven's "Ode to Joy".
Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee,God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee, opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day!
Thou art giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blessed,
Wellspring of the joy of living, ocean depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our Brother, all who live in love are Thine;
Teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine.
(more...)
