Christian Commitment 02
21 ‘Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?” 23 Then I will tell them plainly, “I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!”
24 ‘Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.’
28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law. (Matthew 7:21-29)
In the previous podcast, we see Jesus saying regarding Christian commitment, that the contrast was between "saying" and "doing". In the passage today, the contrast is now between "hearing" and "doing". On the one hand, Jesus says that “There is the person who hears these words of mine and does them.” (v24) On the other hand, Jesus stipulates “There is also the person who hears these words of mine and does not do them” (v26).
In the podcast today we look specifically at Matthew 7:24-27, where Jesus warns of a mere intellectual knowledge of Himself, without any practical application of following Him. Each one of these, is a substitute for the obedience that Jesus asks for.

(Matthew 7:21-29)
Today we start looking at looking at the words of Jesus in Matthew 7 and that following Him involves making a radical choice which demands commitment to Him. Up until now, Jesus has been issuing instructions. It is here, therefore, that He issues the 2 choices we face when having heard His words. As He concludes this sermon with a heart-wrenching application. Jesus confronts us with himself. Jesus sets before us the choice between obeying his words and disobeying them. From there, Jesus then proceeds to call His followers to firm commitment of mind, will & life to himself and his teaching.
In the podcast today we look at verses v21-23, where Jesus warns of a mere spoken profession of following Him. Tomorrow, in verses 24-27 we look at a mere intellectual knowledge of Jesus without any practical application of following Him. Each one of these, is a substitute for the obedience that Jesus asks for. Please do listen or download the mp3 podcast to find out more about this aspect in the life of the Christian.

Partakers Prayers 17 November 2021 - CoronaVirus Pandemic
Wednesday Nov 17, 2021
Wednesday Nov 17, 2021
Today we are praying a prayer together concerning the COVID19/Corona Virus Pandemic. I am sure each of us knows somebody who has contracted this virus, and quite possibly succumbed to it and died because of it. I know I do! Come! Let's pray together!
O great God, as you know,
we are in the midst of this wretched COVID-19 global pandemic.
O Great Comforter,
embrace those grieving the loss of loved ones and wipe their tears.
We don’t know the right way to combat this pandemic,
but we know and trust that you do.
Therefore, give wisdom and courage to all those involved
in its treatment, prevention, cure and vaccine,
including our government and leaders.
May the vaccines be distributed diligently, justly, quickly and efficiently.
We thank you O God that they were prepared by wise people.
We thank you for all those caring for others during this time –
carers, nurses, medics and others.
May you O God, give them courage and wisdom.
Amen

The Lord’s Prayer 08
5 ‘And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. (Matthew 6:5-8)

For yours is the Kingdom and the power
and the glory forever. (Matthew 6:13 NKJV)
12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed – not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence – continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfil his good purpose. (Philippians 2:12-13)

13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one. (Matthew 6:13)
13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
(1 Corinthians 10:13)

The Lord’s Prayer 05
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
(Matthew 6:11-12)25 ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
28 ‘And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you – you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:25-34)21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, ‘Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?’ 22 Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. (Matthew 18:21-22)

The Lord’s Prayer 04
“‘ Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:9)
15 People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.’ (Luke 18:15-17)

The Lord’s Prayer 03
“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, (Matthew 6:9)
“To this day I feed at the Lord's Prayer like a child suckling its mother, and as an old man eat and drink from it and never get my fill. It is the very best prayer, even better than the psalter, which is so very dear to me. It is surely evident that a real master composed and taught it. What a great pity that the prayer of such a master is prattled and chattered so irreverently all over the world! How many pray the Lord's Prayer several thousand times in the course of a year, and if they were to keep on doing so for a thousand years they would not have tasted nor prayed one iota, one dot, of it! In a word, the Lord's Prayer is the greatest martyr on earth (as are the name and word of God). Everybody tortures and abuses it; few take comfort and joy in its proper use.” (Martin Luther “A Simple Way To Pray”)
This prayer is perhaps the most repeated prayer in the world. It is said by those professing to be Christian Disciples and also by those who are not. It is usually called the “Lord’s Prayer”. However, it is not called the “Lord’s Prayer” because Jesus Himself would have prayed it. Jesus was sinless, and therefore He would have had no need to have said to God, “Forgive us our sins” (Matthew 6:12). It is called the “Lord’s Prayer” because it was given by Jesus as a model for all prayers by those who are following Him. Hence, Jesus saying: “How you should pray” (Matthew 6:9).
Some people suggest the name “the Disciples Prayer” as it is only as we enter into a life of discipleship of Jesus Christ that we can being to fully appreciate its depth and meaning. When it is spoken and prayed, I wonder if some people truly understand what they are praying!
Today we are looking at we should mean when we say “Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name”. Please doisten or download the mp3 podcast to find out more about this aspect in the prayer life of the Christian.

The Lord’s Prayer - 02 What Is Prayer?
13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you ill? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
17 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. 18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. (James 5:13-18)
G’day! Welcome to Partakers Podcasts! Over the next few podcasts we are looking together at Prayer. We will do this by taking apart slowly perhaps one of the best known passages of the Bible, in what we call the Lord’s Prayer. It is a prayer which is common to all churches of all denominations, just as it is known to those of other faiths and indeed, no faith at all.
Prayer is to be at the centre of our relationship between God and ourselves. Prayer should be the major action of fellowship between God and humans, and of humans communicating with God, both in talking and listening. Prayer is also a way of “letting God in” to our lives as people of God, Christians, and of enjoying the company of God, relating all aspects of life to Him. Prayer is also a means of protection for us, in that we are too weak in our own understanding and strength to withstand all that is against us. God Himself assists us as we pray: where our desires and yearnings are corrected and strengthened. Prayers expressing desires and thoughts offer a contributory way to the journey of the Christian Disciple.
As we know and we shall see in coming Podcasts, the Lord’s Prayer is a superb biblical example of prayer. Please do listen or download the mp3 podcast to learn more about prayer in the life of the Christian!
