Earthquakes

23rd December 2011

from the BBC - wo strong earthquakes have rocked the New Zealand city of Christchurch, closing the airport and sending residents rushing from buildings. The first 5.8 quake struck at 1358 local time (0058 GMT), the US Geological Survey said. A second of similar magnitude hit 80 minutes later. One person was hurt but there were no reports of large-scale damage. It comes 10 months after swathes of the city were destroyed by another quake.

Joshua Aaron Talbot Baines I did not feel the earthquake myself I was swimming at the time, but i wanted to with all my being, and to be in the moment of God’s supernatural act of shaking revival into this nation. Starting with Christchurch! Take courage, Christchurch is a great city… CHRIST-CHURCH there is prophesy in the name, God is just waking people up sothey will become Christ’s Church. The Bible says “Revival will come from the south” and you cant get much more south than New Zealand. God will just keep doing this untill people will recognize it is Him and they can no longer denie it. There is so much more to this as to why it is exciting but just know God is in control. May the LOVE, FAITH, HOPE, PEACE, and COURAGE be with this nation at this time and from now on!

Katie-Rose Morris-Cole Are you mad? This is a serious question - I’m not being cute. A loving God does not work to be recognized by man through any triggering of disasters, or the subsequent deaths of his flock. He shows his love through the selflessness of the rescuers working to save those still trapped in the rubble, and the prayers of the people who care for them.

Elizabeth Wright Our thoughts and prayers are very much with everyone there, especially with family

Susan Wardell Hagley park was due to have the Elerslie flower show next week, so already had a lot of large tents there. These are being set up now in a big ‘tent city’ for the newly homeless. Even the TV3 reporter called this coincidence a ‘blessing.’

Amy Smith “what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” .. Jesus answered “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Susan Wardell Appreciate that Mike! And much kudos to all you folks you don’t consider yourself Christians, but joined anyway. If ever is a time to take a chance on something bigger, it’s times like this. You guys rock.

Father, Do not let their hearts be troubled. Help the disaster victims of New Zealand to trust You. Give them glimpses of the home you are preparing for them in heaven. Remind each person that you alone are our dwelling place. It is not a physical house upon this earth! Help them to dwell in You! Peace be still upon them!

Praying for the twin town of Christchurch just down the down the road from us in Dorset. That all those who have lost loved ones would know the love of Jesus Christ as they attempt to come to terms with the terrible tragedy on an hourly basis. I thank God that my brother John and his wife Rosina who have lived in New Zeland for the past 30 plus years was not in the area of the incient and that there friends and family have also been spared. Pray that there will not be another similar event in the near future and that the authorities be given wisdom for leading the community and taking any measures required to reduce any impact in the future. Lord may this be a time for the folks to turn to you in their moment of need.

Father in heaven, We come to You this day, because You are our God, our Father, the only God there is, who loves us, Your children. You alone know the plans You have for us, plans to prosper us and not harm us, to give us hope and a future. Father, we come to You on bended knee, regarding the people of New Zealand. Just as in Australia, these people have suffered greatly. This earthquake has destroyed much, including people’s lives. Father, we pray it is Your will to stop the aftershocks from happening. Father, only You can put these people’s lives back in place. Many have died and many more are injured. We pray it is Your will to wrap Your loving arms around each person affected by this tragedy. Lift each person up, encourage them, provide for them. We pray it is Your will to bring many to Christ through this. We pray this in Jesus’ precious name and thank You, in advance. Amen.

We visited your beautiful city from UK between Christmas and New Year and were so impressed with the resilience of the Christchurch people who had suffered an aftershock on Boxing Day. We are praying to God that that resilence will shine through in this time of sadness. We pray that the people that have lost someone will find comfort in the love of their kinsmen and the love of God. I picked up a brochure in the Cathedral whilst we were there and we are saying the cathedral prayer each day. God bless you all.

May your recovery by one of ascents, just as the Psalmist rises from despair to hope… Psalm 130 1 From the depths of despair, O Lord, I call for your help. 2 Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer. 3 Lord, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive? 4 But you offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear you. 5 I am counting on the Lord; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word. 6 I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn. 7 O Israel, hope in the Lord; for with the Lord there is unfailing love. His redemption overflows. 8 He himself will redeem Israel from every kind of sin.

Dear Lord, I pray for the protection of the people in New Zeland, please let there be no deaths or injuries, buildings can be rebuilt, but it is more difficult with people. I pray particularly for my brother John and his wife Rosina who live down there, please take away their fears. Heavenly Father, let there be positve things come out of this situation, that people will realise that there are things greater than them and they can’t control everything. That this event helps them think about the real meaning of life and what a loving relationship with you means through faith in Jesus Christ. I also pray that those who are bringing the plight of New Zealand to the eyes of the world are encouraged, that they continue to do it to serve and praise you, and that they do not get caught up in the opinions and characters of fellow man, but keep their eyes firmly on Jesus. I ask all these things in the prescious name of Jesus. Amen

To those that I know and those whom I do not as you live the other side of the world. Please accept my prayers and thoughts as a comfort in your time of need. I guess it can all get too much, but I hope God places everlasting arms around you.

    Amen

Dear Heavenly Father, Once again, we come before You, because You alone know the plans You have for us, for lives and for our countries. You are in control of all things. You know the end from the beginning. You love us. You provide all things. Father, we pray it is Your will that the tremors/earth quakes will cease. We pray it is Your will to provide for all who have been affected. Not just those who have suffered damage to homes and places of work, but Father especially for those who have lost family and/or friends. We pray for each one. Father, we thank You that our Lord, Jesus Christ came in obedience to save all who would believe on Him. Father, we pray that through the current turmoil that many will come to You, that You will remove the blinders from their eyes and reveal Your truth to them. We thank You in advance for this and pray this in Jesus’ precious name. Amen.

I did not know about this until I saw Dave post a prayer request. I am in the US and don’t get international news. My heart and prayers go out to the people of New Zealand.

Almighty God, you see the devastation that is taking place on this earth, I pray have mercy and use all to draw people to the Lord Jesus Christ. Protect the children and the elderly, give the younger ones the strenght, wisdom and knowledge to do what is right. Be with the government, draw all to you, that you might be magnified on the earth!

    Psalm 23 from The Message

    A David Psalm

    1-3 God, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing.

You have bedded me down in lush meadows,

you find me quiet pools to drink from.

    True to your word,

you let me catch my breath

and send me in the right direction.

4 Even when the way goes through

    Death Valley,

    I’m not afraid

when you walk at my side.

    Your trusty shepherd’s crook

    makes me feel secure.

    5 You serve me a six-course dinner

right in front of my enemies.

    You revive my drooping head;

    my cup brims with blessing.

6 Your beauty and love chase after me

    every day of my life.

I’m back home in the house of God

for the rest of my life.

I would like you to know that even if I do not post a prayer here daily, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I am confident that God will provide for all your needs, because I have prayed for this, in Jesus’ name. May God bless you…
